Jaguar is recalling 2019-2020 I-PACE vehicles because a regenerative brake failure can delay deceleration, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the brake system that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2019-2020 Jaguar I-PACE vehicles. The recall involves 3,083 vehicles where the electrical regenerative brake system may fail. If this failure occurs, there is an increased delay between when the driver brakes and when the vehicle decelerates. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

The delay in deceleration increases the distance needed to stop the vehicle and the risk of a crash. Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will update the software to reduce the delay free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2019.
