What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (air bag failure) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLA250, CLA250 4Matic, and CLA45 AMG 4Matic vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where the Occupant Classification System (OCS) may not be properly calibrated. This issue can result in the front passenger air bag not being deactivated if a child seat is placed in the front seat.

If the passenger air bag is not deactivated and a child seat is in the front seat, the deployment of the air bag in a crash can increase the risk of injury to the child. The recall began on January 2, 2019.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger seat cushion free of charge. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
