Jayco Eagle Travel Trailer Recall for Underrated Safety Chains
Jayco is recalling 2017-2018 Eagle 333BHOK travel trailers because the safety chains are rated below the vehicle's weight limit, posing a crash risk if the trailer detaches.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (underrated safety chains) that could lead to trailer separation and a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Jayco, Inc. is recalling certain 2017 and 2018 Eagle 333BHOK (EC) travel trailers. The safety chains installed on these vehicles are rated for 11,700 lbs, which is lower than the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 12,500 lbs. This discrepancy means the safety chains may fail if the trailer detaches from the tow vehicle.
If the safety chains fail during a detachment event, the trailer would separate from the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects 81 vehicles.
Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will install safety chains with a GVWR of 16,200 lbs free of charge. The recall began on February 8, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
