Travel trailer safety chains recalled for trailer detachment risk

Grand Design is recalling 2022–2024 Momentum travel trailers due to underrated safety chains that may not support the trailer's weight. The defect could allow the trailer to detach from the tow vehicle.

Grand Design RV is recalling certain 2022, 2023, and 2024 Momentum travel trailers (models 23G and 25G) because their installed safety chains are underrated for the trailers' Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Safety chains are the backup restraint that connects a trailer to its tow vehicle.

The underrated chains may not be strong enough to support the trailer's weight. If a primary hitch connection fails, the underrated chains could break or slip, allowing the trailer to detach from the tow vehicle. This creates a significant crash risk.

Affected owners should contact their dealer. Grand Design dealers will replace the safety chains free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 6, 2023.
