Newmar is recalling 2012-2017 Canyon Star motor homes with wheelchair lifts because incorrect bolts may break, allowing the lift to move unexpectedly.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for potential injury to occupants or operators.

Plain-English summary

Newmar Corporation is recalling certain model year 2012-2017 Canyon Star motor homes manufactured between September 7, 2011, and September 6, 2016. The recall affects 114 vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts. The defect involves the use of incorrect bolts to install the wheelchair lift base, which may unexpectedly break and allow the lift to move. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 404, "Platform Lift Installations."

The unintentional movement of the wheelchair lift can cause injury to the lift occupant and/or the lift operator. Newmar will notify owners, and Newmar service facilities will replace the wheelchair lift base mounting bolts free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2016.
