Horton Ambulances Recalled for Air Conditioner Wiring Fire Risk
Halcore Group is recalling 2013-2016 Horton ambulances because a poorly sealed air conditioner wire harness allows water entry, creating a risk of electrical fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (improperly sealed wire harness) that creates a risk of electrical fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating.
Plain-English summary
Halcore Group, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Horton ambulances, including models 453, 457, 503, 553, 603, and 623, manufactured between November 29, 2013, and March 1, 2016. The recall affects 351 vehicles.
The affected vehicles may have an improperly sealed Cool-Tech air-conditioning condenser controller wire harness. This defect can allow water to enter the controller housing. If water enters the housing, the controller may short circuit, which increases the risk of an electrical fire.
Halcore will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Cool-Tech condenser fan controller assembly free of charge. Halcore issued an interim notification to owners on September 9, 2016, and the recall began on October 26, 2016. Owners may contact Horton customer service at 1-614-317-9856 or by email at [email protected]. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
