Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Recall for CVT Hose Clamp Defect
Mitsubishi is recalling 2015 Outlander Sport vehicles because a CVT hose clamp may not be secured, risking fluid leaks, inoperability, or fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (transmission fluid leak) that explicitly increases the risk of a crash and fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The affected vehicles were manufactured between June 25, 2014, and November 25, 2015.
During assembly, a clamp for a CVT hose may not have been properly secured. This defect allows the hose to detach and leak transmission fluid. If enough fluid leaks out, the transmission may not function properly, potentially rendering the vehicle inoperable and increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, leaking transmission fluid contacting a hot surface increases the risk of a fire.
Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hose clamps and correct their installation as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2016. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
