What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a wheelchair lift that could cause the platform to fall, posing a risk of injury to the operator, but no injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Supreme Corporation is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 Startrans Activity Bus, Azure Hybrid, Candidate, Senator, Senator HD, Senator II, President, President S2, Sentinel Van, and Trolley shuttle buses. These vehicles were manufactured between May 9, 2008, and August 9, 2014, and are equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lifts (models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510).
The recall addresses a defect where the platform side plate of the wheelchair lifts may crack. Additionally, the lifts feature folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, allowing bearings to move out of position. If the bearings shift, the stowed platform may move excessively, leading to failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator.
Owners should contact Supreme customer service at 1-800-642-4889 or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884. Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and check the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2016.
