Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks Recalled for Engine Timing Chain Bolt Issue
Mitsubishi Fuso is recalling certain FEC72 and FEC92 trucks because an improperly tightened engine bolt may cause an oil leak and engine seizure, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (engine component) that may cause the engine to seize, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 FEC72 vehicles manufactured between November 8, 2013, and January 28, 2014, and 2012-2015 FEC92 vehicles manufactured between April 22, 2011, and February 1, 2014. The recall involves 25 vehicles in total.
On the affected vehicles, the lower engine timing chain bolt may have been insufficiently tightened during assembly. A timing chain bolt that was not properly tightened may result in an engine oil leak, possibly causing the engine to seize, which increases the risk of a crash.
MFTA will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the lower engine timing chain bolt to the proper torque, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in late June 2015. Owners may call MFTA customer service at 1-877-711-0707 or contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
