Chrysler is recalling 2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles because a module fault may disable airbags and seat belt pretensioners, increasing injury risk in crashes.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where passive restraint systems (airbags and pretensioners) may be disabled, creating a significant risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured between June 2, 2013, and June 28, 2014, and 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured between October 30, 2012, and April 30, 2014. The recall involves a total of 126,532 vehicles.
The recall is due to a fault within the Occupant Restraint Control (OCR) module. This defect may cause the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags to be disabled. The malfunction indicator light (MIL) should illuminate to warn drivers of the failure. If these safety systems are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants in the event of a crash that requires the use of the passive restraint system.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ORC module free of charge. The recall began on April 27, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P67. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
