Plain-English summary
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 Ram ProMaster vehicles manufactured between April 23, 2013, and August 22, 2014. The recall involves 23,053 vehicles where the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven.
As a result of this defect, the low tire pressure warning light may illuminate even when tire pressures are within specification. If a tire subsequently loses air pressure, the driver will not be notified of the change. This failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138 could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, potentially resulting in tire failure and increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the TPMS module with new software free of charge. The recall began on December 8, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
