Western Star 4900 Trucks Recalled for Missing Anti-lock Brake Systems

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Western Star 4900 trucks. The affected vehicles were manufactured between June 24, 2013, and April 30, 2014. These trucks were manufactured without Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), meaning they fail to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121, "Air Brake Systems."
The absence of ABS creates a safety hazard because the vehicles have a greater chance of wheel lockup when braking. This condition increases the risk of a crash. DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will install an Anti-lock Brake System free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2014.
