GM Recalls 2004-2012 Vehicles for Electronic Stability Control Defect

These electrical fluctuations can result in several safety issues, including brake lights illuminating without the brake pedal being pushed, brake lights failing to illuminate when the pedal is pushed, difficulty disengaging cruise control, and the ability to move the gear shifter out of 'PARK' without pushing the brake. Most critically, the defect can disable crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist. Any of these failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will correct the issue free of charge by attaching the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, applying dielectric lubricant to the BCM and harness connector as well as the BAS and harness connector, and relearning the brake pedal home position.
