The recall covers approximately 1,373,177 vehicles. The defect involves a potential sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

If the power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall began on July 17, 2014. GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four service bulletins depending on the specific vehicle model and build date. Parts were not available at the time of the initial notice, with an interim notification expected around May 28, 2014, and a second letter to be sent when parts become available for the repair.
