Coach and Equipment Recalls 2013 Metro Lite and Phoenix Buses

Coach and Equipment is recalling 2013 Metro Lite and Phoenix buses because a wheelchair lift cable may cause a short circuit and fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a potential fire hazard in a vehicle, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural/functional defects posing a high risk of harm.

Plain-English summary

Coach and Equipment Mfg. Corp. is recalling certain model year 2013 Metro Lite and Phoenix transit buses. The Metro Lite buses were manufactured between May and June 2013, while the Phoenix buses were manufactured between March and April 2013. These vehicles are equipped with specific Ricon S-series and K-series wheelchair lifts that include an optional armored pendant cable.

The recall addresses a defect where the armored cable may be positioned in a way that it does not clear the wheelchair lift. If the cable contacts the power lug and lacks a proper nonconductive cover, a short circuit may occur, which could result in a fire.

Coach and Equipment will notify owners, and Ricon will send a supplemental cover kit and instructions free of charge. The recall was expected to begin in June 2014. Owners can contact Coach and Equipment customer service at 1-315-536-2321 or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884.
