Autocar Recalls 2012-2014 Xpert Vehicles for Seat Mounting Defect

Autocar is recalling 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles because floor mats may have prevented proper seat bolt tightening, increasing injury risk in crashes.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat mounting) that increases the risk of injury in a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Autocar Industries, LLC is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles manufactured between July 11, 2011, and March 5, 2014. The recall involves 207 vehicles where the floor mat may have been captured between the seat brackets and the cab sheet metal at all four connection points during manufacturing.

This defect could cause the torque on the seat bolts to relax below the required level, allowing them to loosen. Consequently, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems." If the bolts loosen, the seat may move in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.

Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will correct the seat mounting free of charge. The recall was expected to begin in June 2014. Owners may contact Autocar's customer service at 1-765-489-5499 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
