Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Recall for Defective Left Seat Adjusters
Midwest Automotive Designs is recalling 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans because certain left seat adjusters may allow seats to move during a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat adjusters failing to comply with FMVSS 210 and 207) that increases the risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Midwest Automotive Designs, LLC is recalling certain model year 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The recall affects vehicles manufactured between July 1, 2016, and September 30, 2016, that are equipped with specific left-side seat adjusters (model number 486077) manufactured by Atwood.
The affected seat adjusters may allow the seats to move in the event of a crash. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages," and FMVSS 207, "Seating Systems." If the seat moves during a crash, the occupant is at an increased risk of injury.
Midwest will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left slide track free of charge. The recall began on December 22, 2016. Owners may contact Midwest customer service at 1-574-522-4878 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
