Autocar is recalling 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles because seat belt mounting bolts may be insufficiently tight, increasing injury risk in crashes.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat belt anchoring) that fails to meet federal safety standards, creating a significant risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Autocar Industries, LLC is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Xpert vehicles manufactured between July 11, 2011, and March 5, 2014. The recall involves 207 vehicles.
The defect involves bolts used to anchor the seat belts that may be insufficiently tight to withstand forces experienced in certain crashes. Consequently, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." If the seat belt does not properly restrain the occupant, there is an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the seat belt mounting bolts free of charge. The recall began in June 2014. Owners may contact Autocar at 1-765-489-5499 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
