Autocar Recalls 2012 Xpert Vehicles Due to Seat Belt Anchorage Defect

Autocar is recalling 80 model year 2012 Xpert vehicles because seat belt anchorages may fail to meet federal safety standards, increasing injury risk in crashes.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat belt anchorages) that fails to meet federal safety standards, posing a significant risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury reports.

Plain-English summary

Autocar Industries, LLC is recalling certain model year 2012 Xpert vehicles manufactured between October 17, 2011, and September 17, 2012. The recall affects 80 vehicles with serial numbers ranging from 213522 through 215336.

The defect involves seat belt anchorages that fail to sustain the required 3,000-pound forces for the specified length of time. Consequently, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

In the event of a crash, insufficient seat belt anchorages may prevent the seat belt from properly restraining the occupant, which increases the risk of injury. Autocar will notify owners, and dealers will repair the seat belts free of charge. The recall began on March 1, 2013. Owners may contact Autocar at 1-765-489-5499 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
