Nissan Recalls 2013 Pathfinders for Transmission Hose Defect
Nissan is recalling 2013 Pathfinders because a transmission hose may detach, causing fluid leaks and loss of acceleration.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The defect involves a structural vehicle component (transmission hose) that can lead to loss of acceleration and increased crash risk, fitting the 'High' criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America is recalling certain model year 2013 Pathfinder vehicles manufactured between April 18, 2012, and October 3, 2012. These vehicles are equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The recall involves approximately 3,065 vehicles.
In the affected vehicles, the internal oil cooler (ITOC) hose may detach from the cooler due to inadequate clamping force. This detachment allows transmission fluid to leak. The loss of transmission fluid could cause the transmission to function improperly and the vehicle to stop accelerating, which increases the risk of a crash.
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will install an oil hose repair kit free of charge. The recall began on May 12, 2014. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
