Roadtrek RSCM Motorhomes Recalled for Brake Line Contact with Exhaust Tube
Roadtrek is recalling 2013-2014 RSCM motorhomes because the right front brake line may contact the exhaust tube, potentially causing a hole and reducing braking ability.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake line chafing) that reduces braking ability and increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 RSCM motorhomes manufactured between February 14, 2013, and December 20, 2013, on a Mercedes Sprinter van chassis. The recall involves 61 vehicles.
During the installation of coolant lines, the right front brake line may have been unseated from its holder. This allows the brake line to contact the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube. Contact between the brake line and the EGR tube could result in a hole in the brake line, which reduces braking ability and increases the risk of a crash.
Roadtrek will notify owners, and dealers will secure the coolant lines and inspect for unseated brake lines. Brake lines that show evidence of chafing will be replaced. The recall began on January 30, 2014. Customers may contact Roadtrek at 1-888-762-3873 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
