PACCAR Recalls Mirrex and TRP Warning Triangle Kits for Missing Markings
PACCAR is recalling aftermarket Mirrex and TRP warning triangle kits sold between 2009 and 2014 because they lack required manufacturer markings, failing to meet federal safety standards.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (warning triangles) where reduced visibility increases the risk of a crash, but no injuries or illnesses have been reported.
Plain-English summary
PACCAR Parts, a division of PACCAR Incorporated, is recalling certain aftermarket Mirrex and TRP-branded Warning Triangle kits. These kits were sold between June 1, 2009, and July 2, 2014, under Paccar part numbers GMX1005K and MD1005K.
The affected warning triangle kits do not have the manufacturer's name permanently marked on each triangle. As a result, these kits fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 125, "Warning devices."
Without the required markings, owners may not be able to identify affected warning triangles involved in a recall regarding reflectivity and visibility. Triangles with reduced visibility increase the risk of another vehicle crashing into the parked vehicle. PACCAR will notify dealers and refund owners who purchased the kits. The recall began on October 22, 2014. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-800-945-1231 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
