Starcraft Recalls 2014 Comet RVs Due to Incorrect Tire Load Labels

Starcraft is recalling 50 model year 2014 Comet recreational vehicles because certification labels incorrectly identify tire load ranges, potentially leading to unsafe tire replacements.

Plain-English summary

Starcraft RV, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014 Comet BK, BW, BX, and BY recreational vehicles manufactured between August 22, 2013, and December 10, 2013. The recall involves 50 affected units. The defect is that the certification label on these vehicles incorrectly identifies the load range of the tires, causing them to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, "Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars."

An inaccurate label may result in the installation of replacement tires with an insufficient load range. This could lead to sudden tire failure and an increased risk of a crash. No injuries or crashes have been reported in connection with this defect.

All affected trailers are currently quarantined in dealer inventory. Starcraft will send corrected labels to the dealers. The recall began on January 20, 2014. Owners may contact Starcraft Customer Service at 1-800-945-4787 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
