What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (rear suspension bracket detachment) that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Rodeo and Axiom, and 2003 Rodeo Sport vehicles. The recall affects vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Kentucky, and Missouri.
The defect involves excessive corrosion near the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link. This corrosion may allow the bracket to detach from the frame, which impacts vehicle handling and increases the risk of a crash.
Isuzu will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area. For vehicles with little or no corrosion, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. For vehicles where corrosion has damaged the bracket and its connection to the frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. If the corrosion is too severe for the reinforcement remedy, Isuzu will offer to repurchase the vehicle based on the Kelley Blue Book "Private Party" price. Inspections and remedies are free for vehicles 10 years old or less. For vehicles older than 10 years, the remedy is free only if presented to a dealer within 12 months of notification; otherwise, owners will be charged. The recall is expected to begin in mid-December 2013.
