Chrysler Recalls 2008-2012 RAM Trucks for Tie Rod Assembly Defect

Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 RAM 4500 and 5500 trucks manufactured between February 20, 2007, and December 22, 2012. The recall involves approximately 36,151 vehicles. This campaign supersedes a previous tie rod recall (10V657), and vehicles previously remedied under that earlier recall are also affected by this new campaign.

The defect involves the left tie rod assembly, which may break. A failure of this component may result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified by letter expected to be mailed on August 31, 2015. Dealers will replace the tie rod assembly free of charge. Under a consent order with NHTSA, owners also have the option to have the vehicle repurchased at fair market value plus 10% or receive an incentive toward the purchase of a new Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, or Fiat vehicle.
