Prevost Recalls Buses Due to Incorrect Tire Pressure Certification Plate
Prevost is recalling specific model year 2005-2014 buses because the certification plate lists incorrect tire inflation pressures, which may lead to overinflation and increased crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (tire overinflation leading to reduced traction and crash risk) where no specific injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text, fitting the 'High' severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Prevost Cars, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 X3-45, 2012-2014 H3-45, 2008 H3-45 VIP, 2005 XL2, and 2006-2011 XL2-45 Entertainer buses equipped with super single tires. The recall involves 35 vehicles.
The cold inflation pressure shown on the certification plate is higher than the specification for the super single tires installed on the rear axle. This discrepancy may lead to tire overinflation, which can reduce traction, braking ability, and handling, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. These vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Part 567, "Certification Regulation."
Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will replace the certification plate free of charge. The recall began on November 22, 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888. Prevost's recall number is SR13-61. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
