American Hauler is recalling 2006-2010 cargo trailers equipped with a specific door lock option that may jam, potentially trapping occupants inside.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically the risk of being trapped inside the trailer, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

American Hauler is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 cargo trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and July 30, 2010. The recall affects trailers equipped with a flushlock option that uses a Fastec-brand door lock. A total of 1,103 units are affected.

The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the cargo trailer unable to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

American Hauler will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2013. Owners may contact American Hauler at 1-574-264-0227 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.
