Navistar Recalls 2013 International ProStar Trucks for Axle Bearing Defect
Navistar is recalling 2013 International ProStar trucks because a missing or incorrect snap ring may allow the wheel hub to separate from the axle, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (axle bearing/wheel hub separation) that may increase the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 International ProStar commercial trucks manufactured between January 24, 2012, and January 2, 2013. The recall affects vehicles with feature codes 29AEB and 29AEC (Preset Plus hubs). The defect involves the axle bearing retaining nut lock snap ring, which may have not been installed or may have been installed incorrectly.
If the snap ring is missing or incorrect, the retainer nut may work loose, potentially causing the wheel hub to separate from the axle. This separation may increase the risk of a crash. Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any missing axle bearing retainer nut lock snap rings free of charge. The safety recall began on April 24, 2013.
Owners may contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153) for more information. The NHTSA recall number is 13V101000.
