Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Freightliner Business Class M2, 108SD, and 114SD vehicle chassis. These vehicles were manufactured between December 3, 2011, and October 12, 2012, and are equipped with a SmartPlex switch hub module. The recall campaign number is FL-639.

The defect involves residue left over in the manufacturing process of the switch hub module. This residue may lead to intermittent shorts and the energizing of certain switch hub module outputs. If the module is energized, it may inadvertently activate body equipment or features, which increases the risk of injury to the vehicle operator or the risk of a crash.

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace any of the affected modules free of charge. The recall began on April 29, 2013. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
