Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain 2012 and 2013 Freightliner vehicles, including the Cascadia, Business Class M2, 108SD, and 114SD models. The recall covers vehicles manufactured between January 20, 2012, and February 17, 2012. DTNA identified that certain Property Class 04 steering wheel nuts with incompletely formed threads were supplied in place of the specified Property Class 05 nuts.
The defective nuts may not provide the required clamp load to fully seat the steering wheel on the steering shaft when tightened to the specified torque. A steering wheel that is not fully seated may wobble, making it difficult to control the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
DTNA will notify owners, and authorized service facilities will install a new steering wheel nut free of charge. The safety recall began on May 21, 2012. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
