Dodge Durango Recalled for Incorrect Seating Capacity Labels
Chrysler is recalling 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles with incorrect seating capacity labels that may overstate capacity, potentially increasing injury risk in a crash.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a labeling error that fails to comply with safety standards, creating a theoretical risk of increased injury in a crash due to overcapacity, but no specific injuries or deaths are reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2013 Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured between April 27, 2012, and September 14, 2012. The recall involves 734 vehicles that may have been built with incorrect seating capacity information labels. These labels might overstate the actual seating capacity of the vehicle.
The defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims." If the seating capacity is overstated, the vehicle may be filled with more occupants than it is rated for, which could increase the risk of injury during a vehicle crash.
Chrysler will notify owners and provide replacement labels free of charge. Owners may take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for the installation of the correct label at no cost. The recall began on February 18, 2013. Owners can contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
