Plain-English summary
KTM North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012 and 2013 350 EXC-F and 500 EXC motorcycles. The recall covers vehicles manufactured from September 2011 through August 2012. A total of 1,181 vehicles are affected by this safety recall.
Due to manufacturing inconsistencies at the supplier, the preformed fuel hoses located between the fuel tank and the throttle body fuel rail may develop cracks or holes at either end. This defect allows fuel to leak during use. The leaking fuel may drip onto the rear tire while the motorcycle is being ridden, which increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, in the presence of an ignition source, the leaked fuel can cause a fire.
KTM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the defective fuel hoses free of charge. The safety recall began on December 11, 2012. Owners may contact KTM Customer Relations at 1-888-985-6090 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
