The defect involves door latch systems that fail to meet the strength requirements of S4.2.1.1(a) of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components." A non-compliant latch system may not remain fully latched to keep the door closed, particularly during a crash. This condition may increase the possibility of partial or full occupant ejection.
