What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (door reinforcement) that increases the risk of occupant ejection and injury in a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2015 Transit cargo vans manufactured between March 12, 2014, and June 24, 2014. The affected vehicles are equipped with windowless sliding doors and do not have rear seating positions. Approximately 592 vehicles are included in this recall.
The defect involves the potential absence of epoxy reinforcement on the windowless sliding doors. Without this reinforcement, the doors have an increased potential to unlatch during certain side impact crashes. If a door unlatches and opens, it may allow a vehicle occupant to be ejected, increasing the risk of injury.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install a reinforcement plate into the windowless sliding door free of charge. The recall began on September 22, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
