Plain-English summary
Van Hool N.V. is recalling certain model year 2002 through 2011 transit buses and motorcoaches manufactured between August 2002 and October 2010. The recall affects 1,673 vehicles equipped with specific Hadley remote mirror switches (part numbers 509VH and 509VH1F).
The defect involves the rear view mirror switch, which may overheat and cause the plastic housing to melt. This excessive heating can lead to a fire, resulting in smoke, operator distraction, or personal injury. Additionally, the overheated switch may cause the exterior rear view mirrors to fail to operate or adjust properly, preventing the driver from having full use of the mirrors and increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners will be notified by Van Hool via its dealer, ABC Bus Inc. Owners may choose to perform the repair themselves or take the vehicle to an ABC location for a free repair. The safety recall began on January 10, 2011. Owners can contact the warranty administrator for ABC Bus, Inc. toll-free at 1-877-427-7278.
