Kenworth Recalls 2011 Trucks Due to Air Governor Assembly Error
Kenworth is recalling certain 2011 T270, T370, and T800 trucks because a misassembled air governor may delay emergency brake activation.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The source text explicitly states that a vehicle crash or fire is possible, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural vehicle defects involving critical safety systems.
Plain-English summary
Kenworth is recalling certain model year 2011 T270, T370, and T800 trucks manufactured between January 28 and March 19, 2010. These vehicles are equipped with a DV-2 air governor that was misassembled with a blank plug instead of a breather. The affected trucks include specific part numbers for the T270/T370 models and the T800 model.
Without the proper breather installed, the air governor may fail to detect a loss of air pressure in the air system during normal use. This condition can result in the slow activation of the emergency spring brakes. Although operators receive audible and visual warnings for low air pressure, a vehicle crash or fire is possible if these warnings are not heeded.
Kenworth will notify owners and repair the vehicles by replacing the blank plug with a breather and inspecting for proper function at no charge. The safety recall began on June 10, 2010. Owners may contact Kenworth at 1-425-828-5440 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
