Plain-English summary
Iomega Corp. is recalling approximately 60,000 power supply units used with certain Iomega external Jaz disk drives in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The two-piece plastic housing of the power supply can separate, which exposes internal electronics and creates a serious electrical shock hazard for consumers. Iomega is aware of three reports of the power supply breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
These power supply units are black, 4-inch long boxes that plug into Jaz disk drives. They were sold with Jaz 2 gigabyte (GB) disk drives, remanufactured Jaz 1GB disk drives, and as replacement or supplemental units between September 1998 and March 1999. The units were sold by computer retailers, specialty retailers, and computer catalogs. The model number GPC14-2001 is written on the gray identification label on the bottom of the unit, and the serial number begins with digits from 837 through 907.
CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled power supply units and to unplug them before examining them. Consumers can call Iomega at (800) 781-3296 for information on receiving a replacement power supply unit.
