Power Cord & Cable Corp. is recalling approximately 850 outlet converters in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). These orange PVC converters, which turn a single electrical outlet into three, were sold at discount, variety, and hardware stores in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania from September 1997 through November 1997. The converters measure about 3 inches wide and 2.25 inches long and feature "15a-125v...Made in China" embossed on the bottom.

The recall is due to safety hazards where plugs using the converters can come partially out of the receptacles, creating shock and electrocution risks. Additionally, even when plugs appear securely inserted, poor electrical connections can occur, presenting a fire hazard. CPSC and Power Cord & Cable Corp. are not aware of any injuries involving these products, and the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.

Consumers should stop using the recalled outlet converters immediately and return them to the store where purchased for a refund. Note that Power Cord & Cable Corp. is not able to be reached and may be out of business. U.S. Customs alerted CPSC to this hazardous product.
