EKCO Housewares Inc. is voluntarily recalling about 16,800 12-inch skillets in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves two specific models: the Ekco Eterna 12-inch stainless steel skillets and the Ekco Endura 12-inch non-stick stainless steel skillets. The defect involves the skillet handles, which could bend or break, causing the hot contents of the pan to spill onto consumers and creating a risk of injury.
The Eterna skillets were sold at Kmart stores nationwide from April through May 1998 for about $30. The Endura skillets were sold at Walmart stores nationwide from September 1997 through May 1998 for about $26. Both products were manufactured in China. CPSC and EKCO are not aware of any injuries involving these skillets; the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.
