Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling approximately 7,500 Technique brand enamel-coated 8-inch cast iron skillets. The recalled skillets feature two pour spouts and a ribbed underside, with a cream interior and an exterior available in sage, blue, or red. The brand name "Technique" is printed on the bottom of the pans. The products were manufactured by Meyer Trading Company Limited of Hong Kong, China.
The recall was issued because small pieces of the enamel coating can pop off the skillet when it is heated, which poses a burn hazard to consumers. The firm has received five reports of enamel popping off the skillet, resulting in two reports of consumers receiving minor burns.
The skillets were sold for between $28 and $35 through QVC's televised shopping programs, at qvc.com, and in QVC retail and employee stores from August 2009 through September 2010. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled skillets. Known purchasers were mailed instructions for obtaining a full refund. Consumers who purchased the skillets at a QVC store should return the skillets to any QVC store for a full refund. For additional information, consumers can contact QVC at (800) 367-9444 between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. ET daily, or visit www.qvc.com.
