What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (burns and lacerations) where injury has been reported, but the injury was minor and no deaths or serious injuries are documented, fitting the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
QVC is recalling approximately 51,000 units of Paula Deen® 11-inch cast iron grill pans and griddles. The recalled items were sold as QVC item numbers K14984, K11970, and K135024. The cookware is black with the Paula Deen® logo and product size engraved on the bottom. No other Paula Deen® cookware is involved in this recall.
The recall is due to the cookware's potential to crack or shatter while heated, which poses burn and laceration hazards to consumers. QVC and the distributor, Meyer Trading Co. Ltd., have received 79 reports of the cookware cracking or shattering. One consumer reported a minor burn injury to an arm.
The cookware was sold through QVC's televised shopping programs, its website, and QVC retail and employee stores from October 2007 through July 2009 for between $35 and $55. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cookware. Known purchasers were mailed instructions for obtaining a full refund, and consumers who purchased the cookware at a QVC store should return it to any QVC store for a full refund.
