Plain-English summary
Scentex Inc. of Chicago, Illinois, is voluntarily recalling approximately 97,000 units of Earth Scents Natural Potpourri Candles. The recall excludes Scentex candles packaged in decorative tins. The affected candles are oval-shaped and have visible potpourri in the bottom half of the wax.
Due to a manufacturing error, the wick is positioned in a way that allows the potpourri inside the wax to ignite and flare up during use, resulting in a fire hazard. Scentex received one report of a flare-up from England associated with the use of these candles; no injuries were reported.
The candles were sold nationwide in retail stores and specialty shops from August 10, 1994, through October 1, 1994. Consumers should stop using these candles immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or a safer replacement. Consumers with questions can call Scentex collect at (312) 278-0700.
