The affected fans feature a ball and canopy mounting system that can separate from the ceiling mount, causing the fan to fall.

A falling fan can injure bystanders and may leave exposed wires in the ceiling, creating a potential electric shock hazard. Casablanca has received approximately 50 reports of fans falling, including one incident where a consumer was injured. The fans were sold nationwide with retail prices generally ranging from $200 to $2,500.

Consumers should stop using the fan immediately and ensure no one is underneath it. To identify the recalled product, check the metal nameplate for the "Casablanca" brand and verify that the second letter of the serial number is A, B, C, O, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, or Y. The ball and canopy mount is also visible from the bottom of the fan. Pasadena brand fans are not covered by this recall.

Owners can call (888) 227-2178 to receive a free retrofit part and instructions to prevent the fan from falling. If a fan has already fallen, consumers should immediately turn off the circuit breaker due to the possibility of exposed wires. Casablanca offers free installation assistance for fans manufactured after March 1991, and will evaluate requests for earlier models on a case-by-case basis.
