Plain-English summary
The Modern Fan Co. Inc. is recalling Pensi ceiling fans due to a fall and injury hazard. The internal coupler that connects the down rod assembly to the motor can break, causing the fan to fall from the ceiling. The recalled fans have model numbers beginning with or containing "PEN-AA-" or "PEN-GW-" and feature an Aluminum/Anthracite or Gloss White finish.
The company received four reports of incidents where the fan fell from the ceiling while operating. No injuries were reported in these incidents. About 1,300 units were sold nationwide from August 2008 through July 2009 for between $400 and $530 through internet retailers, lighting showrooms, fan specialty stores, and electrical distributors.
Consumers should immediately turn off the power to the fan to stop use and not allow anyone underneath it. If a fan falls, consumers should immediately turn off the circuit breaker due to the possibility of exposed electrical wires. Consumers can contact The Modern Fan Co. toll-free at (888) 588-3267 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday for assistance with model identification and a replacement coupler.
