Plain-English summary
Illco Toy Company, USA, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain Walt Disney Mickey Mouse Baby Play Gyms. The recall applies specifically to gyms with plastic or unstitched fabric straps. Gyms with fabric straps stitched in two locations are not affected. The recalled product, model no. 8722, is a freestanding activity center for infants featuring four tubular supports and a crossbar with three straps holding Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and a disc-shaped rattle with a mirror.
The recall is issued because buckles and loops may dislodge from the straps. CPSC tests indicated that buckles may also come loose from plastic straps. These detached parts, along with the rattle, are small enough to be ingested by an infant, presenting a choking hazard. Additionally, the mirrored rattle may break into small parts if it comes off the strap. The product was sold nationally for approximately $17.00 in 1987.
Consumers with affected gym sets should immediately remove the toys from infants and toddlers. To obtain replacement straps, buckles, and rattles, consumers should write to the Consumer Service Department at Illco Toy Company, 200 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York 10010.
