The recall is due to a defect in the plastic height adjustment mechanism, which has fractured in at least five instances. This failure causes the walker to collapse, allowing the infant inside to fall to the ground. The CPSC is aware of one minor injury to an infant resulting from this defect. The Commission estimates that more than 40,000 walkers may be affected. The walkers were sold for approximately $30.00 in retail stores nationwide. Affected units can be identified by the specific plastic height adjustment mechanism and the number 997 appearing on the inside plastic handle of that mechanism.
Perego Products has corrected the issue in current models. Owners of affected walkers should stop using the product immediately until a repair kit is received and installed. The company will provide a free repair kit to prevent seat collapse.
