The trimmers are being recalled because the black rotating fan and cap assembly, located below the guard, may fracture during use. If this occurs, pieces of the assembly can be thrown out from under the guard, posing a safety hazard to users and bystanders. Black & Decker is aware of 102 reports of fan/cap breakage, some of which resulted in injuries involving lacerations and bruises to the feet and legs.
Consumers should immediately stop using the affected trimmers and return them to a Black & Decker Service Center for a free repair. The company has developed a new fan and cap assembly to prevent future failures. Owners can identify affected models by checking the label decal tag near the top of the trimmer or by contacting Black & Decker for assistance.
