Plain-English summary
Durham Industries, Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 4,300 Smurf Musical Crib Train toys, Model 5340/5342, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall is issued because small parts may break off the toy if it is dropped, presenting a choking, aspiration, or swallowing hazard. CPSC safety standards specify that toys for children under three years of age must not contain such small parts.
The affected toys are light blue plastic train engines with yellow wheels and a smokestack, measuring 7.5 inches long by 3.5 inches wide by 7.5 inches high. They feature a Smurf face on the front and are designed to be fastened to a baby crib rail, where they move and play music when wound up. The toys may also be used as floor toys. A label molded on the right side of the engine reads: "DURHAM INDUSTRIES, INC., MCMLXXXII NEW YORK, N.Y. 10010, ITEN NO. 5340/5342 MADE IN HONG KONG."
Since 1982, these toys were sold for $13 to $15 each through Toys-R-Us stores in the East Coast, Midwest, West Coast, and Florida. The CPSC has received one report of an infant choking on a small part from this toy; the child was not injured and required no medical attention. Consumers should remove the products from use immediately and return them to the retailer where purchased for a full refund. For further information, consumers may call Durham Industries at 212-679-2282 or the CPSC toll-free Hotline at 800-638-CPSC.
