The hazard is associated with pumps featuring solid black plastic float switches positioned on top of the pump motor. Pumps with bright metal float switches on top of the motor are not affected by this recall.

The installed location of these pumps in or around water increases the danger of electrical shock. According to the CPSC, only a few of the approximately 5,600 pumps distributed to retailers have been sold. No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers who have one of these pumps should immediately disconnect the motor from its power source. They should then contact the place of purchase for a free, simple repair to remove the possible hazard. Retailers have been advised of the issue and provided with repair instructions.
