Plain-English summary
Electronic Creations Co., Inc. is voluntarily recalling the Teletone Model 54740 Solid State Phonograph toys. The recall was initiated after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) determined that the toy fails to comply with Federal regulations for electrically operated toys and is banned from sale.
The hazard involves a possible electric shock to the user. During testing by CPSC staff, the phonograph case split open, exposing the live parts of the mechanism. Additionally, the power cord is not adequately secured to the unit and is shorter than the minimum required length of 5 feet. No injuries associated with this product have been reported.
The affected phonographs are packaged in a cardboard box with a blue, black, and white label reading "Solid State Phonograph Teletone" and "Model 54740." The case is brown and white plaid and white pressboard. Approximately 4,200 units were distributed nationwide to department stores, toy stores, electronic stores, and other retail outlets, selling for about $20.95.
Consumers should return the phonograph to the place of purchase or directly to Electronic Creations Co., Inc. at 444 South 9th Avenue, Mt. Vernon, New York 10550 for a full refund.
